Trinity Spooner, a junior at South Beauregard High in Louisiana, finished fifth in the inaugural girls javelin throw showcase at Nike Outdoor Nationals at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Spooner had the best overall throw in the competition with a fifth-round mark of 146-4 (44.60m), but was knocked off in the opening round of the eight-athlete, head-to-head tournament. Spooner won the girls javelin throw championship a day earlier with a mark of 161-11 (49.37m).
